The Youth Leadership Entrepreneurship and Development (YLEAD) Fellowship is a 4-week immersive capacity-building program designed to educate, engage and equip young people with skills to prepare them for the world of work and transition from school to career.

The program will take place virtually from November 7 – December 2, 2022, with participants from across the country. It offers well-developed modules and content on areas such as Self Awareness, Purpose Discovery, Emotional Intelligence, Goal Setting, Time Management, Etiquette, Ethics and Values amongst others.

This year we have included an opportunity to harness digital skills and get remote job placement!

The program includes the following:

• 1 week of intensive training on Leadership and Personal Development
• 1 week of intensive digital skills training
• 2 weeks of internship, business simulation and remote job placement

Eligibility:

The YLEAD program is open to aspiring young leaders who may be students, graduates and out-of-school youth. Interested participants:

• Must be between the ages of 15 – 30 years
• Must show interest in learning new skills and participate in group activities
• Must attain 75% attendance in the training program
• Must be of good behavior and willing to interact with people of different backgrounds, tribes, and religions
• Should be interested in volunteering and having a mentor

Because we live in a fast-changing world, with advancements in science and technology, machines and artificial intelligence are fast replacing conventional jobs. The future is digital and for anyone to meet up with its standard; they must have certain digital skills.

iKapture Center for Development in collaboration with AIESEC Nigeria and Opportunity Desk hosted the 2022 Digital Skill Up Summer Boot camp (DSB 22) from August 1 to 29, 2022. The boot camp was a 4-week intensive and immersive tech program designed for kids and teenagers to gain digital skills, leadership, and life skills that will them address problems in society.

Participants learned how to code and use app builders to create their own apps and other digital courses.

Learning Outcome from DSB 22

The participants were successfully trained on the following 10 skills: Intro to Cyber Security, Soft skills (Time management, Public Speaking and Team Building), Graphics Design, Mobile app development, Copywriting, SEO, Amazon book publishing, Leadership skills, Drone Technology, Whiteboard Animation, Web design/development (HTML, CSSS, JavaScript).

During the project week, they also learned presentation skills and teamwork.

The kids and their parents were very excited and overjoyed about the outcome and what they were able to do, their parents were even happier as they watched their ward(s) during the presentation. Here are a few testimonials:

With the invent of artificial intelligence, search engine optimization, and data-driven marketing it has become necessary that young people adapt to the latest innovations.

In a bid to fill this need, Ikapture Center for Development hosts an all-year-round Youth Leadership and Development (YLEAD) Fellowship program.

The Youth Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Development (YLEAD) Fellowship is a capacity-building program designed to educate and engage young people into becoming tech-savvy entrepreneurs and leaders and also equip them with the latest innovations to help them thrive in this age of ever-changing technology.

As with last year, it held virtually allowing for participation globally and across Nigeria with the theme ‘Emerge’.  

Recruitments began in September and promotions were made across all of Ikapture’s social media handles. By the end of the recruitment process, a total of 20 participants across Nigeria and Africa were selected…

The virtual program provided an enabling environment for these young minds to learn from experienced leaders, share ideas with successful digital entrepreneurs and changemakers. The first day of the event began with a Keynote Address titled Emerging as a 21^st Century Youth: The Role of Leadership and Personal Development and was given by Mrs. Ekpoanwan Nsa Ayi, Founder of HarryField Montessori. With an attendance of over 30 participants from Zoom and Facebook Live Stream. In the course of the program, participants underwent a 2-week thorough and intensive training sessions on self-awareness, vision boarding, goal setting, critical thinking, and ethics to mention but a few.

These sessions yielded a positive impact as manifested in the feedback we received.
